In the history of American penmanship, no figure has remained so beloved, nor enchanted the minds of penmen more than Platt Rogers Spencer. While the calligraphy world rightfully celebrates “the father of American penmanship,” our fascination with the idea of a “Golden Age” has perhaps distracted us from engaging in true discerning scholarship.
